How To Cancel A Subscription On iPhone

To cancel a subscription on your iPhone: 1. Open the Settings app. 2. Tap your name at the top of the screen. 3. Tap Subscriptions. 4. Tap the subscription you want to end. 5. Tap Cancel Subscription, then confirm. That is the whole process — you keep access until the end of the billing period you already paid for, and Apple simply stops charging you after that. If you do not see a Cancel button, the subscription is already canceled and the date on screen is when it expires.

Cancel Through The Settings App (Step By Step)

The Subscriptions screen in Settings lists every subscription billed through your Apple Account. Active subscriptions appear at the top with their renewal date and price; expired or canceled ones are grouped below them. Tap any active subscription and you will see all the plan options that app offers — which means this screen is also the place to downgrade instead of cancel. Many services offer a cheaper ad-supported tier or an annual plan on this same screen, so it is worth a look before you pull the plug entirely.

When you do tap Cancel Subscription, Apple asks you to confirm once. After that, the subscription stays listed as active until its expiration date, then moves to the expired section. Nothing else is required from you.

Cancel Through The App Store Instead

The exact same list lives in the App Store app: open the App Store, tap your profile icon in the top-right corner, then tap Subscriptions. Tap the subscription, then Cancel Subscription. There is no difference between this route and the Settings route — use whichever you find first.

Canceling An Apple One Bundle

Apple One (the bundle of Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud+ and more) sits in the same Subscriptions list. Tap Apple One, then either Cancel All Services to end the whole bundle, or pick individual services if you want to keep some and drop others. Keep in mind that keeping two or more services separately can cost more than the bundle, so check the math before splitting it up.

Why Your Subscription Is Not In The List

This is the most common frustration, and it almost always has one of three causes:

  • The service bills you directly, not through Apple. Many big streaming services do not sell subscriptions through the App Store at all — if you signed up on the service's website, the charge comes from the company itself and only they can cancel it. Our guide to finding and canceling all your subscriptions in one place covers how to track those down, and we have step-by-step guides for individual services like Netflix and Hulu.
  • You subscribed with a different Apple Account. Check the receipt email Apple sent you and make sure you are signed in to that same account.
  • A family member purchased it. With Family Sharing, only the person who bought the subscription can cancel it — the list on your phone shows only your own purchases.

When Billing Stops, Free Trials, And Refunds

Canceling never triggers a partial refund — you keep access until the current period ends, then billing stops. To avoid being charged for another cycle, Apple recommends canceling at least 24 hours before the renewal date shown on the subscription screen. One important exception: if you cancel during a free trial, you may lose access immediately rather than at the end of the trial, so time that one deliberately. If you were charged for something you did not intend to keep, you can request a refund from Apple — see Apple's official guide at support.apple.com for the details.

Canceling From A Mac

No iPhone handy? Open the App Store on a Mac, click your name in the bottom-left corner, click Account Settings, then scroll to Subscriptions and click Manage. The same list appears and the same Cancel button does the job.

FAQ

Does deleting the app cancel the subscription?

No — this catches a lot of people. Deleting an app does nothing to its subscription; you will keep getting billed until you cancel through Settings or the App Store using the steps above.

Can I resubscribe later?

Yes. Expired subscriptions stay in the list, and tapping one shows the available plans so you can restart whenever you like.

Why was I charged after canceling?

Usually one of two things: the cancellation happened after the renewal had already processed (remember the 24-hour rule), or the charge is coming from a different account or billed directly by the service rather than through Apple.

How can I see everything I am paying for?

The Subscriptions screen shows every recurring charge that runs through Apple, with prices and renewal dates in one list — it is worth scrolling through it once a quarter, because forgotten free trials that quietly converted to paid plans are exactly the kind of thing that hides there. For charges that do not run through Apple, scan your credit card statement for recurring line items and cancel each one at the source; the all-your-subscriptions guide has a full checklist for that audit.
