How To Cancel Netflix: Don’t Skip These Steps

Are you rethinking your Netflix membership after their most recent price hike? If so, you’re not alone. It seems to become a yearly tradition for Netflix to increase its prices. It’s no wonder though, with how competitive these services have become. Netflix is constantly having to produce more original content. This content costs a lot of money. However, as a consumer, you can choose not to pay for it. If you’ve decided it’s time to give your Netflix subscription the ax, you’ll want to know the steps to take. Here is how you can cancel your Netflix subscription.

How To Cancel Netflix: Don't Skip These Steps 1

How To Cancel Netflix: You Pay Netflix Directly

  • Head to Netflix’s Site

The first thing you will want to do is head to the site. It’s best to go to the site on a desktop browser. You can either go directly to Netflix.com/cancelplan or go through the site and the various steps to get to your account. Once you’ve signed in, you’ll be presented with a couple of options. The first is to cancel your account and continue to use it through your current billing date. The next option is to stick around but switch to a cheaper plan. Keep in mind, the cheaper plan is going to come with a downgrade in either quality or the total number of screens you can use at a time. If you just want to cancel, you can proceed with your canceling by checking the “cancel” box and clicking “finish cancellation.”

2. You Pay Through Your Wireless Carrier

A lot of people don’t want to have to deal with signing up for a subscription just to pay it individually. If you’ve signed up through your wireless carrier out of convenience or to save money through a partnership with them, you’ll have a different step to take. You won’t be able to cancel it directly through Netflix.com. Instead, you’ll need to head to your wireless carrier’s website. From there, you go into your billing details and you should have the option to remove them from your plan. If not, you can always either call or chat with your carrier to get them to manually remove the Netflix subscription from your account.

3. Through Apple or Google

While you can no longer sign up for Netflix using your Apple or Google accounts, you could in the past. Because of this, if you’ve been grandfathered into it, you’ll need to cancel through them. You will go to your iTunes or Google Play account and you can cancel the subscription for Netflix directly on it. This can be an easier way to cancel a subscription since you’re probably already used to using Apple or Google to manage your subscriptions.

Canceling Netflix doesn’t have to be tedious. While there are different ways you will need to cancel based on how you signed up, you should be able to get it canceled without having to call or chat with anyone. A good way to keep yourself from getting charged when you don’t want a subscription after a trial or a certain period is using a virtual credit card. This way, you can have it automatically closed after your initial transaction.
