Fubo Not Working? How To Fix It
To fix Fubo when it is not working: 1. Check Fubo's status page at support.fubo.tv — the help center shows the current health of streaming and account systems, and if Fubo itself is down, nothing on your end will fix it. 2. Flip to a different channel and back, which restarts the stream and clears most frozen pictures. 3. Force-close and relaunch the Fubo app. 4. Turn off any VPN — Fubo does not work over a VPN or proxy at all. 5. Power cycle your streaming device, router, and modem: unplug each for a full minute, plug them back in, and let everything reconnect before relaunching the app. These are the same first steps Fubo's own support playbook walks through for nearly every problem.
Check Your Internet Speed Against Fubo's Real Requirements
Fubo publishes exact speed requirements, and falling short of them is the single most common cause of buffering and black screens. You need 3 Mbps for 480p, 7 Mbps for 720p, 10 Mbps for 1080p, and 25 Mbps for 4K streams. Run a test at fast.com — the tool Fubo itself points users to — on the same device you are streaming from.
Remember that every simultaneous stream needs its own slice of bandwidth: three 720p streams need at least 21 Mbps between them. If you are on Wi-Fi, moving closer to the router or switching to wired ethernet often fixes stubborn buffering on its own. If your connection cannot keep up, drop the video quality: on TV devices, press Up on your remote to open the Player Controls and choose a lower option under Video Quality. On the web player, use the settings cog at the bottom right of the video.
Sign Out, Then Clear the App Cache
A stale session can break both playback and sign-in. Open the Fubo menu, select your profile, choose Sign Out, then sign back in. If the app still misbehaves, corrupted cached data is the next suspect — it causes crashes, login loops, and playback errors:
- Fire TV: Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Fubo > Clear Cache.
- Android TV / Google TV: Settings > Apps > See All Apps > Fubo > Clear Cache.
- Android phones: find Fubo under Apps in Settings and clear the cache from its storage options.
- Roku: there is no manual cache option — Roku clears its cache when it restarts, so go to Settings > System > Power > System Restart.
- Everything else: uninstalling and reinstalling the app flushes the same stored data.
Make Sure Your Device Is Still Supported
Fubo tightened its device requirements in 2026, and older hardware that used to work now shows an error at launch. Since February 5, 2026, Fire TV and Android devices that cannot update to Android OS 7.0 are no longer supported. Current requirements include:
- Apple TV: 4th generation or newer on tvOS 13.0 or later
- Roku: models 3700X and higher (Roku OS 14 for full support)
- Smart TVs: Samsung from 2017, LG from 2018 with webOS 4.0 or later, Vizio SmartCast from 2016, Hisense VIDAA from 2020
- Mobile: iPhone XS or newer on iOS 17.0 or later, iPads on iPadOS 17.0 or later, Android 7.0 or later
- Consoles and browsers: the Xbox One family, plus the latest Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari
If your device fell off this list, the app will keep failing no matter how many times you reinstall it — streaming from a supported device or the web player is the only fix.
Fixing the "We're Unable To Play This Content" Error
This message usually means your video setup fails the content owner's DRM requirements rather than anything being wrong with your account. Fubo's official fixes all target the display chain:
- On a computer, switch browsers — try Safari on Mac or Microsoft Edge on Windows.
- Disconnect external monitors, or unplug all but one if you run several.
- Unplug the HDMI cable at both ends and reseat it firmly.
- Replace any HDMI cable or monitor that is not HDCP 2.2 compatible.
Stream Limits, Location Errors, and Blackouts
Fubo's US English-language plans include Family Share with Unlimited Screens: up to 10 simultaneous streams on your home network plus 3 more outside the home on mobile or web. The catch is that connected TV devices — Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, smart TVs, Xbox — only work from one location at a time. Streaming on TVs in two different places at once triggers a too-many-locations error; stop one stream before starting the other, and have family members away from home use the mobile app or web player instead.
Sports blackouts are set by leagues and networks, not by Fubo. If a blackout message looks wrong, check alternate channels in the guide, enter your ZIP code at fubo.tv/gamefinder, and verify the Home ZIP Code field under My Account. Devices you travel with must log in from your home area once every 30 days to keep regional sports networks working.
FAQ
Why does Fubo keep buffering during big games?
Live sports puts heavy load on every streaming service, and big-match traffic spikes can cause buffering that is not your fault. If your speed test passes and the status page is clean, lowering the video quality one notch is usually enough to ride out the spike.
Does Fubo work with a VPN?
No. Fubo blocks VPNs and proxies outright — you will either see an error message or the app will not load completely until the VPN is off.
Fubo works on my phone but not my TV. Why?
That usually points to the TV app rather than your account: clear the app cache (or restart a Roku), check for an app update, and confirm the TV itself is still on Fubo's supported-device list above.
