Sling TV Not Working? How To Fix It
To fix Sling TV when it is not working: 1. Fully close and relaunch the Sling app — not just back out, but quit it from your device's app switcher and reopen it. 2. Restart your streaming device: unplug it, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. 3. Restart your modem and router the same way. 4. Run a speed test on the device you are streaming from — live TV needs a fast, stable connection, and a weak Wi-Fi signal in one room can break streams even when the rest of the house is fine. 5. Common Sling TV Error Codes
Sling errors show a number code, and most of them share the same handful of fixes:
- 10-100 and 10-101 — app or sign-in errors. Relaunch the app first; if that fails, sign out of your Sling account, sign back in, and reinstall the app if it persists.
- 4-310 — usually appears as "this channel is temporarily unavailable." Switch to a different channel and back, close other apps running in the background, then sign out and back in. If one specific channel stays down while others play, the problem is often on Sling's end — give it a few minutes.
- 10-410 and other 9-xxx / 10-xxx playback codes — typically connection-related. Restart the app and your router, and make sure nothing else on your network is hogging bandwidth.

Check Whether Sling Itself Is Down
Before you factory-reset anything, rule out an outage. If Sling suddenly stops working on every device in the house at the same time — especially during a big live event — the problem is probably not yours. Check Sling's help center or their social accounts for outage notices, and try a channel on another service to confirm your internet is healthy. Outages usually resolve on their own within the hour.
Fixes By Device
Roku
Restart the Roku first (Settings > System > Power > System Restart, or just unplug it). If Sling keeps failing, remove the Sling channel, restart the Roku again, then re-add the channel from the channel store and sign back in.
Fire TV / Firestick
Clear the app's cache: Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Sling TV > Clear cache. If that is not enough, use Clear data (you will need to sign in again), and restart the Firestick.
Apple TV, Android TV, and smart TVs
Update the device's system software along with the app — an out-of-date OS is a common culprit on older smart TVs. Deleting and reinstalling the Sling app clears out corrupted data on platforms that do not expose a cache setting.
Watching in a browser
Sling specifically recommends turning off ad-blockers, which can break playback on watch.sling.com. Try a private/incognito window or a different browser, and make sure the browser is up to date.
Buffering, Freezing, Or A Black Screen
If streams start but stutter or freeze, treat it as a bandwidth problem: close other streaming apps, pause large downloads, move the streaming device closer to the router, or switch to a wired ethernet connection if your device supports one. Lowering the stream quality in the Sling app's settings can also stabilize playback on slower connections.
Location And VPN Problems
Sling only works inside the United States, and it checks. If you are using a VPN, turn it off — Sling will refuse to stream through most of them. On phones and browsers, make sure location/geolocation access is allowed for Sling, since a blocked location check can look like a random playback error.
How To Keep Sling From Breaking Again
A few habits prevent most repeat failures. Leave automatic app updates turned on for your streaming device, since Sling errors spike on outdated app versions. Restart your streaming device every week or two — set-top boxes accumulate memory cruft that shows up first in live TV apps. If your device sits far from the router, a cheap ethernet adapter or moving the router a few feet often does more than any settings change. And keep only one or two streams running at once on slower internet plans, because Sling's multi-stream plans can outrun a modest connection.
