If you’re a Marvel fan, but you’ve only seen the movies, you may be wondering what the Marvel TV shows are all about. Should you watch Loki, or can you skip this show? If you’re curious about what this show is all about, you can learn more here.
What Is Loki?
Loki is a television series that’s a part of Marvel’s expanded cinematic universe. In the show, Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki, the devious brother of Thor. Although Loki died in the film Avengers: Infinity War, a new timeline was created in Avengers: Endgame. An alternate version of Loki was able to steal the Tesseract, which brought him to a mysterious location known as the Time Variance Authority.
This version of Loki hasn’t experienced events that occurred in many other Marvel films, including Thor: The Dark World or Thor: Ragnarok. While the show sends Loki on a variety of adventures, it also gives him the chance to grow and develop as a character.
Loki is joined in his journey by many other characters that are exclusive to the TV series, such as Mobius M. Mobius, who is played by Owen Wilson, and Ravonna Renslayer, who is played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Over the course of the show, Loki must help Mobius hunt a Loki variant who has been interfering with various timelines.
Where to Watch Loki?
Loki was created for the Disney+ streaming service. When Disney announced its streaming service, Marvel Studios began developing limited series that were based around supporting characters from its films. In addition to Loki, there are several other Marvel original series available to watch on Disney+, such as Wandavision, What If…?, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
When Loki debuted on June 9, 2021, new episodes were released each week. The last episode was released on July 14, 2021, which means the entire series is now available to watch on Disney+. Currently, there are no plans to bring the show to DVD or Blu-ray. If you want to see Loki, you’ll need a Disney+ subscription.
Can You Watch Loki for Free?
While Disney+ initially had a free trial for potential subscribers, that trial is no longer available. However, if you already have a Hulu subscription, you could get Disney+ at a discounted rate by signing up for the Disney Bundle. This bundle also includes an ESPN+ subscription.
If you’re not interested in Hulu, you can also subscribe to Disney+ for a single month. You can cancel your subscription at any time, which means you won’t have to spend a lot if you want to see all of Loki.
How Many Seasons Are There?
Loki was originally developed as a limited series, but during production, the show’s creators decided that there was still more story that they wanted to tell. Before Loki debuted on Disney+, the show’s creator, Michael Waldron, signed a deal for a second season. The release date for the next season has yet to be announced, but it’s all but certain that more Loki is on the way.
In the meantime, there are a total of six episodes of Loki on Disney+. Each episode runs for around 40 to 50 minutes, which means it provides more content than a Marvel movie. It’s likely that the next season of the show will be around the same length.
Should you watch Loki on Disney+? If you’re a fan of Marvel movies and comics, and if you enjoyed Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of Loki, this show is a must-see. It received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, and the show is considered to be a part of the MCU canon.
