MGM Plus Not Working? How To Fix It
To fix MGM+ when it is not working: 1. Force-close the app and reopen it — on a streaming device exit fully rather than backing out to the menu. 2. Restart your device with a real power cycle: unplug TVs and streaming boxes for a full minute. 3. Check your internet by playing something in a different app. 4. Update the MGM+ app and your device software. 5. Sign out and sign back in. 6. Uninstall and reinstall the app to clear corrupted data. If sign-in is the thing failing, jump to the subscription-mismatch section below — the most common MGM+ "outage" is really an account mix-up.
First: Make Sure You're In The Right App For Your Subscription
MGM+ sells the same content through two different doors, and they do not unlock each other:
- If you subscribed through Prime Video Channels, you watch inside the Prime Video app. Your Amazon login will not work in the standalone MGM+ app, which is why it keeps saying it can't find your subscription.
- If you subscribed directly with MGM+ (or through a cable provider), use the MGM+ app with your MGM+ or TV-provider credentials.
Check where the charge comes from on your bank statement — Amazon means Prime Video, MGM+ means direct. If you need to re-link a TV app afterward, follow our MGM+ activation guide.
The Fixes That Solve Most MGM+ Problems
- Force-close and relaunch. On Fire TV: Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → MGM+ → Force stop. On Apple TV: double-press the TV button and swipe the app away. On Roku, back out to the home screen and reopen.
- Power-cycle the device. Unplug the TV or streaming box from the wall for 60 seconds. This clears more glitches than any other single step.
- Test your connection. Play something in another streaming app. If everything is buffering, restart your router; MGM+ streams comfortably on a few Mbps but chokes on an unstable connection.
- Update everything. An outdated MGM+ app on a smart TV is a frequent cause of crashes on launch — check your device's app store for updates, and install pending system updates too.
- Clear cache/data (Android TV and Fire TV): Settings → Apps → MGM+ → Clear cache, then Clear data. You will need to sign in again.
- Reinstall. Delete the app, restart the device, reinstall from the app store, sign in fresh.
Device-Specific Notes
- Roku: remove the channel, restart the Roku from Settings → System → Power (or by unplugging), then reinstall the channel. Roku caches channel data until a restart.
- Smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Vizio, Sony): TV app stores lag behind — if the app crashes on an older set and there is no update, a cheap streaming stick running the current app is the practical fix.
- Watching via Prime Video: if MGM+ titles specifically fail while other Prime Video content plays, the problem is on the channel side of Prime Video — the fixes in our Prime Video troubleshooting guide apply, and checking your channel subscription status in your Amazon account comes first.
Sign-In And Playback Error Basics
- Activation code rejected: codes expire fast — generate a new one and enter it at mgmplus.com/activate right away.
- "Subscription not found": the app/subscription mismatch above, or your subscription lapsed. Confirm the payment went through with whoever bills you.
- Black screen or infinite spinner on one title: back out, try a different title; if only one title fails, it is on MGM+'s end — try later.
- HDCP or blank-screen errors on a TV box: reseat the HDMI cable and try a different HDMI port.
Is MGM+ Itself Down?
Outright MGM+ outages are rare but happen. If every device in the house fails at once, check an outage tracker like Downdetector and MGM+'s social accounts before factory-resetting anything. When the service is down, the only fix is patience — your apps will recover on their own.
Still Not Working?
MGM+ runs its own support hub at mgmplus.com/help covering account, billing, and device setup. If you subscribe through Prime Video, Amazon customer service owns your billing questions instead. And if the app has soured you on the standalone route entirely, switching your subscription to the Prime Video Channels version puts MGM+ inside an app that gets far more frequent updates on every platform.
FAQ
Why does my Amazon login not work in the MGM+ app?
Because Prime Video Channels subscriptions live inside Prime Video only. The MGM+ app accepts direct MGM+ accounts and TV-provider logins, not Amazon accounts.
Did my EPIX app stop working?
EPIX became MGM+ in January 2023. If a device still runs an ancient EPIX app, uninstall it and install the current MGM+ app.
Does MGM+ have an ad-supported cheap tier that behaves differently?
No — MGM+ is ad-free on every plan, so ads appearing mid-stream means you are not actually watching MGM+ (check that you are not on a free-with-ads lookalike channel).
