The advertising department of AT&T has decided that ads will be introduced when users pause Epix or STARZ channels on DIRECTV and AT&T TV Now.
AT&T first introduced the feature in late 2018 where viewers began seeing ads when they paused their DVR recordings. By the end of 2019, AT&T started rolling out “pause ads” on select devices on the HBO channels.
The ads during a pause start 30 seconds after a viewer pauses a show or movie. Pause ads are animated but will be silent. Pause ads show up on live, on-demand, and recorded content.
“We want to make sure that we’re matching the great content experience with great advertising experiences,” said Matt Van Houten, Xandr’s (AT&T’s advertising company) senior VP, product development.
